Harsha flags concerns over 2025 FDI figures despite BOI reports at COPF

Committee on Public Finance (COPF) Chairman Dr. Harsha de Silva says Sri Lanka has recorded approximately US$827 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) so far in 2025, according to the Board of Investment (BOI).

However, he cautioned that a significant portion of the reported figure consists of previous commitments and internal rollovers, rather than fresh equity inflows.

Dr. de Silva pointed out that several major investment announcements, including by Sinopec, have yet to materialize.

Highlighting the need for genuine new investment to support economic growth above 7%, he urged the BOI to accelerate key policy reforms, including the Economic Transformation Bill, the establishment of a new Economic Commission, and the development of new investment zones. (Newswire)
