Four people, including a youth, were killed in four separate road accidents reported yesterday (6) in the police divisions of Maradankadawala, Vellaveli, Kadawatha, and Pudukuduirippu.
Police said the first accident occurred at Thawalanhalmillewa junction on the A11 road in the Maradankadawala division when a car collided with a bicycle traveling in the same direction. The cyclist and a passenger on the bicycle sustained injuries and were admitted to the Maradankadawala Hospital, where the cyclist, a 37-year-old resident of Maradankadawala, succumbed to his injuries.
In another incident, a motorcycle traveling towards Chavalakade on the Vellaveli–Chavalakade road veered out of control and crashed into two pedestrians. The pedestrians and the rider were admitted to Kalmunai Hospital with injuries, but one of the pedestrians, a 58-year-old resident of Pandiruppu, later died.
A third accident was reported along the Dalupitiya–Ragama road when a car heading towards Ragama lost control and hit a pedestrian. The victim, a 51-year-old resident of Ramboda, was rushed to Ragama Hospital but was pronounced dead on admission.
Meanwhile, in the fourth accident, a motorcycle attempting to turn onto a by-road at Udayarkattuwa on the Paranthan–Mullaitivu road was struck from behind by another motorcycle and then collided with a cab coming from the opposite direction. Both riders were injured and admitted to the Dharmapuram Hospital, where the 22-year-old rider of the turning motorcycle, a resident of Mulliyawalai, died from his injuries.
Police have launched further investigations into all four accidents.
