According to reports, the suspect, a 56‑year‑old resident of Digana, Kandy, had arrived from Bangkok at 12:01 am when officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) and Customs officials intercepted him.
Upon inspection, officials discovered cages hidden in his luggage containing guinea pigs, squirrels, dove birds, sugar gliders, and hedgehogs.
Following investigations, Customs imposed a fine of Rs. 250,000 on the suspect.
The confiscated animals were subsequently handed over to Thai Airways to be returned to Bangkok, officials confirmed. (Newswire)
