Wildlife officers attached to the Wayamba Wildlife Regional Office raided a private property on the right bank of the Deduru Oya valley on October 13, arresting three suspects in possession of illegal firearms, explosives and animal traps in an area heavily traversed by wild elephants.
Acting on intelligence received by the regional office, officers conducted a search of the land and seized a shotgun, a stock of SG cartridges, four pressure guns, three “hakka patas” explosive baits, a snare, and various other related items.
During the operation, three suspects were taken into custody, while a fourth suspect managed to evade arrest and flee the scene. Wildlife authorities noted that further investigations and operations are actively underway to locate and apprehend the absconding suspect. (Newswire)
