Rear Admiral Dhanesh Pathberiya retired from the Sri Lanka Navy today, marking the end of a distinguished career spanning more than 33 years.
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando, together with members of the Navy’s Board of Management, extended best wishes to the retiring officer, who also celebrated his 55th birthday today.
In keeping with naval tradition, Rear Admiral Pathberiya was accorded a Guard of Honour, followed by formal farewells from fellow officers. He was then sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.
Pathberiya joined the Navy in 1992 as an Officer Cadet of the 10th intake of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy.
Over the course of his career, he held prestigious command positions on board ships and craft, and served in several key appointments including Provost Marshal, Naval Officer in Charge (Trincomalee North), Director of the Commercial Explosives, Firearms and Ammunition Procurement Unit (CEFAP), Director Naval Policy and Plans, Acting Director General Administration, and Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet.
