The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will launch a series of village-level meetings across the country from Monday (2), beginning in the Colombo District, party Operations Head Johnston Fernando announced.
The programme, organised under the guidance of SLPP National Organiser MP Namal Rajapaksa, will involve meetings with party branches and constituents five days a week.
Addressing a meeting of SLPP constituency organisers in the Colombo District, Fernando said the initiative aims to educate the public about what the party describes as the government’s unfulfilled election promises and alleged corruption.
He instructed party organisers to highlight several controversial incidents, including the release of 323 containers, alleged irregularities in coal procurement, the reported Central Bank hacking incident and funds transferred to incorrect accounts.
Fernando also urged organisers to remind voters of the government’s election promises relating to tax relief on essential goods, healthcare and school supplies.
He alleged that the administration had failed to deliver on commitments to remove taxes on these items.
The SLPP plans to conduct the meetings across the island as part of its efforts to strengthen its grassroots political activities. (Newswire)
