The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern, Northcentral, and Uva provinces, and the Trincomalee, Mannar, Vavuniya and Mullaittivu districts today (03).
Per the advisory, valid until 11.00 pm, red alerts have been issued to 18 districts, while amber alerts have been issued to 7 districts.
Thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at some places in the districts after 1.00 pm. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
