Minister orders urgent action to clear port congestion

The Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Dr. Anura Karunathilaka, has reportedly instructed urgent measures to ease congestion at the port caused by the high volume of imports, exports, and re-exports.

The discussion, chaired by the minister, was attended by Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha, Deputy Minister of Ports Janith Ruwan Kodituwakku, the ministry secretary, and other officials, according to The Lankadeepa.

It was stated that around 8,000 containers are currently scheduled for clearance.

The meeting also decided to direct low-risk containers to the newly established Bloemendhal yard and speed up clearance operations under the full supervision of Sri Lanka Customs (NewsWire)
