The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a Level 1 (Yellow) landslide early warning effective from 6 p.m. on October 4 to 6 p.m. on October 5, 2025.

The warning is in place for areas in the Badulla (Hali Ela, Ella, Badulla, Passara), Kurunegala (Narammala), Matale (Ukuwela, Rattota), Monaragala (Badalkumbura, Bibila), and Nuwara Eliya (Kothmale) districts, including surrounding Divisional Secretariat divisions.

The NBRO said the alert follows rainfall exceeding 75mm within the past 24 hours and a soil water index over 100mm. Residents are advised to be watchful for signs of landslides, slope and rock failures, and ground subsidence.

People living in landslide-prone areas have been urged to watch for pre-landslide signs such as ground cracks, tilting trees or posts, and muddy water springs. They are advised to move to safer areas if such signs appear or if heavy rain continues.
