28-year-old man was shot dead in the Alawwa police area, police said, confirming the killing followed a firearm attack.
Police said officers began investigations after receiving information that a man had collapsed beside a motorcycle along the Wilgamuwa–Morawalapitiya road in the Godakuruw area on the night of January 17. The victim was found dead at the scene.
A magisterial inquest and examination by a judicial medical officer conducted on January 18 confirmed the death was caused by gunshot injuries. The victim was identified as a resident of the Matigane area in the Narammala police division.
The body has been placed at the Kurunegala Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations. Further investigations are being conducted by the Alawwa Police and the Kurunegala Divisional Crime Investigation Unit. (Newswire)
