Pakistan’s Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf created ODI history with an unbeaten 89-run partnership for the 10th wicket, the highest last-wicket stand in a successful ODI run chase, as Pakistan secured a sensational one-wicket victory over England in Lahore on Sunday (October 25).

Chasing 242 for victory in the ODI Tri-Series, Pakistan appeared headed for certain defeat after collapsing to 154/9.

However, Shadab produced an extraordinary counterattack, scoring a remarkable century and guiding Pakistan to victory alongside last man Haris Rauf.

The partnership surpassed the previous record of 64 runs set by West Indies players Deryck Murray and Andy Roberts against Pakistan at Edgbaston during the 1975 Cricket World Cup.

The achievement ended a 51-year wait for a new record for the highest 10th-wicket partnership in a successful ODI chase.

Shadab’s innings transformed Pakistan’s fortunes after England had dominated much of the second innings and appeared on course for victory.

Earlier, England were bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs despite a century from Ben Duckett, who scored 105. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed four wickets.

The dramatic victory also secured Pakistan’s place in the Tri-Series final, scheduled for October 31 in Lahore.

Pakistan’s remarkable recovery will be remembered as one of the most extraordinary last-wicket comebacks in ODI cricket. (Newswire)
