Minister Anura Karunathilaka says the exact cause of Sri Lanka’s islandwide power outage has yet to be determined, while efforts are underway to restore electricity in stages.

He said a technical failure at a power plant in Kotmale on Friday (October 16) was among the possible contributing factors being investigated.

The Minister said electricity had already been restored to one area, with further restoration expected in stages.

He also urged rooftop solar panel owners to switch off their systems to support efforts to restore the national grid.

The Minister said the immediate priority was to restore electricity across the country as quickly as possible, while investigations into the cause continue. (Newswire)
