President attends almsgiving for Cyclone Ditwah victims in Nelummala

‎President Anura Kumara Dissanayake attended a three-month memorial almsgiving ceremony on Friday (27) in honor of residents of Nelummala village who died in the Ditwah disaster.

‎The ceremony was held at Pamunupura Batamulla Junior School to commemorate victims from Nelummala village in the Minipe Divisional Secretariat area of Kandy District. More than five kilometers of the village were affected by landslides triggered by the disaster.The disaster took lives of 31 people from 13 families.

‎The religious observance was conducted by about 70 Buddhist monks, who offered dana in memory of those who died in the disaster and other related incidents.

‎Related religious activities, including a bodhi pooja and pirith chanting, were also held Thursday (26) evening with the participation of senior members of the Buddhist clergy, government officials and villagers. (NewsWire)
