
Letters of appointment were presented today to the members of the newly established Salaries and Pensions Commission, tasked with addressing longstanding issues relating to the salaries and pensions of public sector employees and pensioners.
The ceremony was held at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The Commission is chaired by retired Ministry Secretary T. Ashoka Peiris, with D.M.C. Nalaka Dissanayake serving as Secretary.
Other members include retired Justice K.K.A.V. Swarnadhipathi, N.B.M. Ranatunga, Dr. R.W. Jayantha, Dr. G.M. Mudith Sujeewa, retired Brigadier B.J. Fernando, A.L. Mohamed Mukthar, S.T.B. Ratnayake, A.W. Lal Chandra Weerakoon, G.A.P. Pathmanatha, and K. Sarath Lal Perera.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake established the Commission through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2494/05 dated June 22, 2026, with the primary objective of finding solutions to anomalies in public sector salaries and pensions.
The Commission is expected to propose reforms that align with Supreme Court rulings, Cabinet decisions, and global trends, while ensuring a citizen‑centric and accountable public service. (Newswire)
