Travel time between Ahmedabad and Colombo has been cut from nearly eight hours to just three with the launch of a new direct air service connecting Gujarat and Colombo.
Sri Lankan carrier FitsAir today launched its inaugural direct flight between Ahmedabad and Colombo, creating the first direct air link between Ahmedabad and Colombo
The inaugural flight departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and was marked by a special ceremony attended by former Sri Lanka cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya and other dignitaries.
The launch coincided with the introduction of the “Chalo Colombo, Haalo Sri Lanka” campaign organised by City of Dreams and FitsAir aimed at promoting tourism, cultural exchanges and stronger people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka.
Airport officials said the new route is expected to boost tourism, trade and business travel while offering greater convenience to travellers from western India and Sri Lanka.
Industry stakeholders noted that passengers previously relied on connecting flights that often took up to eight hours or more, while the new direct service reduces travel time to approximately three hours.
FitsAir is expected to operate the Ahmedabad-Colombo service three times a week, opening a new gateway between Gujarat, India and Sri Lanka and supporting growing travel demand between the two destinations. (Newswire)
