Morocco captain Hakimi to stand trial over rape allegation

Footballer and Morocco team captain Achraf Hakimi will stand trial in France over an allegation of rape, French prosecutors have confirmed.

A woman accused the Paris Saint-Germain defender of raping her at his home in Paris in 2023. Following an investigation, an examining judge ordered a trial in February 2026, with French media reporting that Hakimi’s recent appeal to have the case dismissed was unsuccessful.

Hakimi, 27, has consistently denied the allegation and said he is awaiting the opportunity to clear his name in court.

“The justice system looked me in the eye and said, ‘If you weren’t famous, there would never have been a case,’” Hakimi wrote on social media.

“I’ve been waiting for this trial since day one. And now I’m eagerly awaiting it. Finally, I’ll be able to speak,” he added.

The complainant’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, welcomed the decision, saying it provided her client with “relief and hope” after more than three years of legal proceedings.

A trial date has not yet been announced. (Newswire)
