
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has urged the Sri Lankan government to reduce fuel taxes similar to the recent measures taken by India.
Premadasa noted that the Modi administration has decided to reduce the Special Additional Excise Duty on petrol and completely remove it for diesel to ease the burden on consumers.
“Modi government has decided to reduce the Special Additional Excise Duty on petrol and completely remove it for diesel in order to cushion the hardship on the Indian consumer. High time for AKD to keep up to his election promise and follow suit,” Premadasa said in a post on ‘X’.
Several countries, including Sri Lanka, have introduced emergency measures to face the impacts of fuel supply due to the ongoing war between the US, Israel and Iran. (Newswire)
