SLPP ParliamentarianD.V. Chanaka has alleged that Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody is attempting to prevent the release of a report related to the import of substandard coal.
Speaking to media, the MP claimed that minister Jayakody had been at the Norochcholai Power Plant for several days and was trying to conceal findings linked to what he described as a coal-related irregularity.
“This coal issue is a fraud linked to the government. Because of this, the country is facing power issues, and people may even have to rely on generators during the festive season,” he said.
He further alleged that although an initial report had been issued in January, the minister had not visited the plant for months, but had done so only after a no-confidence motion was brought forward.
“The minister is now at Norochcholai trying to suppress the report and cover up the issue,” he claimed.
The MP also alleged that efforts were being made to shift blame and avoid accountability, adding that opposition parties were uniting against what he described as ongoing corruption. (Newswire)
