US Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff has emerged as a leading contender for the 2028 presidential election following his decisive re-election victory in Georgia during the US midterm elections.
The 39-year-old senator, who has drawn comparisons to former President Barack Obama, has seen his prospects rise sharply on prediction market Polymarket.
According to figures reported by The Independent, Ossoff’s market-implied probability of securing the Democratic presidential nomination climbed to 24%, an increase of nine percentage points within 24 hours.
His probability of winning the 2028 presidential election also rose to approximately 18%, putting him ahead of Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Republican Vice President JD Vance on the platform at the time of reporting.
Ossoff secured re-election in Georgia against Republican challenger Mike Collins, receiving approximately 58.9% of the vote and more than 2.4 million votes.
Following his victory, Ossoff delivered a strongly critical speech targeting President Donald Trump, describing him as a failed president and accusing his administration of corruption and incompetence.
First elected to the Senate in 2021 Ossoff has attracted comparisons to Obama because of his public speaking style, relatively young age and appeal across different sections of the Democratic Party.
His campaign reportedly raised more than $100 million, further drawing attention to his potential national political ambitions.
Other prominent Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and California Governor Gavin Newsom, also feature among potential contenders for the party’s 2028 nomination.
However, the figures cited are based on prediction-market trading rather than public opinion polling, and do not represent an official nomination or a reliable forecast of the election outcome. (Newswire)
