The Disaster Management Center (DMC) confirmed that the bodies of two males and a female, trapped in a shop buried by the landslide in Pahala Kadugannawa, have been recovered, raising the death toll to four.
Four others injured in the incident are receiving treatment at Mawanella Hospital, hospital sources said.
The landslide occurred around 9:00 a.m. today (22) when soil and rocks fell onto a shop in the Lower Kadugannawa area of Ganethenna.
The Ganethenna junction–Kadugannawa road has been temporarily closed. Police advised vehicles traveling from Colombo to Kandy to use Rambukkana–Galagedara, and those from Kandy to Colombo to take alternative routes.
Vehicles between Gampola and Colombo are being diverted via Mawanella–Hemmattagama, while Colombo–Kandy traffic is urged to use the expressway.
