A complaint has been filed against cricketer Virat Kohli in connection with the June 4 stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that killed 11 people and injured dozens.

The complaint, submitted by social activist HM Venkatesh at the Cubbon Park Police Station, accuses Kohli of promoting “gambling through IPL,” allegedly inciting the crowd involved in the tragedy.

Police said the complaint would be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation but confirmed that no FIR has been registered against Kohli.

A Bengaluru court on Friday remanded four individuals to 14 days of judicial custody, including RCB official Nikhil Sosale and three event managers. They were arrested in a joint operation by Cubbon Park police and the Central Crime Branch at Kempegowda International Airport on June 6.

The Karnataka High Court granted interim relief to office bearers of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), directing police not to take coercive action against them. The court has adjourned the case to June 9.

On June 5, Bengaluru police registered an FIR against the RCB franchise, DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., and the KSCA on charges including culpable homicide and illegal assembly.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had earlier directed the arrest of those responsible, citing prima facie evidence of negligence. Several senior police officers, including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, were suspended following the incident.

Nikhil Sosale has approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to declare his arrest illegal, arguing that it was conducted without proper evidence or inquiry. (Newswire)
