A suspect accused of attempting to pawn counterfeit gold jewellery has been arrested by police in Rakwana.
The arrest was made yesterday by officers attached to Rakwana Police.
Police said the suspect is a 25-year-old resident of Balangoda.
During further investigations, officers recovered a carefully crafted counterfeit women’s gold ring weighing around eight grams from the suspect’s possession.
Police also found several receipts allegedly linked to transactions in which fake gold items had been pawned at multiple centres in exchange for cash.
Investigations have revealed that the counterfeit jewellery had been obtained from an individual in the Kurana area of Negombo.
Further investigations are being carried out by Rakwana Police. (Newswire)
