The Chinese government has agreed to provide the entire requirement of school uniforms for 4,418,404 students in government and government-assisted schools for the year 2026.
The certificate exchange ceremony was held on September 11 at the Ministry of Education premises in Battaramulla, under the patronage of State Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madhura Withanage and Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong. The agreement was formally exchanged between Education Ministry Secretary N.H.M. Chithrananda and Ambassador Qi.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Withanage noted that China had donated 11.82 million meters of fabric in 2025, benefiting over 4.6 million students nationwide, and valued at over Rs. 5.17 billion. He added that the 2026 donation further reflected the strong ties between the two countries.
