Six people, including four young men, have died following five separate road accidents reported from various parts of the country on Tuesday (Aug. 5), police said.
Two motorcyclists, aged 20 and 31, from Galenbindunuwewa and Anguruwatota, were killed in a crash in Yakalla, along the Kekirawa-Galenbindunuwewa road, after the rider lost control of the motorcycle and veered off the road.
In another fatal crash, a 25-year-old motorcyclist from Udugama died after his motorcycle collided with a container truck near Donalwatta Junction on the Colombo-Kurunegala road in the Nalla police division.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old youth from the Pugoda area died when his motorcycle lost control and crashed into a parked tipper truck at the Banagala Vedamedura Junction in Dompe.
In Kilinochchi, a 55-year-old pedestrian from Trincomalee was fatally struck by a cab while attempting to cross the A-9 road near the Old Kachcheri Junction.
Separately, an 82-year-old man from Ingiriya died after being hit by a motorcycle while crossing the Panadura-Ratnapura main road near the Ingiriya Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries after being transferred from Ingiriya Hospital to Horana Hospital.
Police have launched further investigations into each of the incidents. (Newswire)
