Convener of the Inter-University Student’s Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige has been granted bail pertaining to three (03) separate cases filed against him.

Mudalige was granted bail over the cases by the Fort Magistrate’s Court today (01).

The IUSF Convener was yesterday released from the case, filed against him under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

Issuing the verdict, the Colombo Chief Magistrate discharged Mudalige from all charges filed under the PTA, stating that it has been proven that the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) had misused the PTA to file charges against him.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate further stated that Mudalige has not committed any of the offences specified in the PTA.

The student activist was detained under the PTA for over 140 days over his participation in anti-government protests in 2022. (NewsWire)
