Diana Gamage case verdict : Update from Court

The verdict on the petition filed seeking a writ order to disqualify State Minister Diana Gamage from holding a parliamentary seat has been postponed by the Court of Appeal.

Despite the verdict being set to be delivered today, the court has postponed it to July 25, 2023.

The decision was announced by the Appellate Court bench consisting of the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice A. Marikkar.

A writ petition had been filed against State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage challenging her citizenship and right to hold a Parliamentary seat.

Filing the writ petition, civil activist Oshala Herath sought a ruling that Diana Gamage was unqualified to serve as a Member of the Sri Lankan Parliament due to her British citizenship. (NewsWire)
