Controller General of the Department of Immigration and Emigration Harsha Ilukpitiya says that over 9000 online applications for passports have been received in the past 9 days.
He said that a total of 9158 applications have been received through the online application portal.
The Department rolled out online applications for passports on the 15th of June, which requires the applicant to visit any of the designated 51 divisional secretariat offices to register their biometrics. Payment can be done online or by visiting a BOC branch.
Two types of services are available through the online applications. The urgent service will cost Rs. 15,000 and the passport will be couriered within 3 days. Through the normal service, the passport will be sent through registered post within 14 days and it costs Rs. 5000. (NewsWire)
