Southern Province Governor Willy Gamage has tested positive for COVID-19.
He is the first Governor in Sri Lanka to contract the virus.
The Governor said he had tested positive while undergoing self-isolation.
Stating that his personal secretary had earlier contracted the virus, Gamage said he had immediately self-isolated as a safety measure.

Meanwhile, seven parliamentarians have so far tested positive for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.
MPs Dayasiri Jayasekara, Rauff Hakeem, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Piyal Nishantha de Silva, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Wasantha Yapa Bandara and Arundika Fernando have contracted the virus. (NewsWire)
