Sri Lankans returning from overseas will no longer require approval from the Foreign Ministry to enter the country, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva announced today.

A number of Sri Lankans, including migrant workers, were stranded overseas due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Government thereafter took measures to repatriate Sri Lankan migrant workers and students who were stranded overseas.

Those who were willing to be repatriated and those who were willing to return on their own expense were instructed to obtain the Foreign Ministry’s approval to enter the country.

However, the COVID Task Force has announced that such approval will not be required for Sri Lankans returning from overseas.

Head of the Task Force Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said the decision comes into immediate effect. (NewsWire)
