President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not requested me to resign from my post, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said today.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa further said that he believes that the President will not do so.

He made the observation during a meeting with Mayors and Chairmen of Local Government institutions at Temple Trees today, during which a discussion was held on the current crisis in Sri Lanka.

It was announced during the meeting that Mayors and Chairmen of Local Government institutions had reached a common consensus pertaining to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s designation, stating that the latter is not required to step down.

Pointing out that the Prime Minister had been appointed to a Government that had been established with a majority public mandate, the group said in order to accept the people’s demands, he will have to continue to work while retaining his position.

They further said that it was the responsibility of Parliamentarians who had entered the Parliament using the Prime Minister’s name to protect the latter. (NewsWire)
