The fuel quota for three-wheelers will be increased within the next two weeks, Minister Kanchana Wijesekera informed Parliament today (18).
Minister Wijesekera said that measures are underway to register three-wheelers engaged in public transportation services.
Data from the Department of Motor Traffic shows 1.1 million registered three-wheelers, while in reality, only 350,000 three-wheelers are in operation as per vehicles registered with the Provincial and Local Government bodies.
Provincial Councils have been instructed to register three-wheelers operating as public transportation, while such registrations were conducted at Police stations earlier as well.
The registered vehicles must be entered into the Fuel Pass QR system which will take around one to two weeks, he explained.
Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said he expects to provide an additional fuel quota to three-wheelers following the completion of the necessary measures, which may take around 2 weeks. (NewsWire)
