Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya delivered the keynote address at the NDTV World Summit 2025 in New Delhi on Friday, held under the theme “Edge of the Unknown: Risk. Resolve. Renewal.”

In her speech titled “Steering Change in Uncertain Times,” Amarasuriya emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, adaptability, and shared responsibility in navigating global challenges.

She praised India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy, describing it as a framework that benefits all countries in the region. Amarasuriya expressed gratitude for India’s assistance during Sri Lanka’s 2022 economic crisis, calling it “a lasting reminder that India’s help at our hour of need is deeply valued by our people.”

Reflecting on her personal connection with India, Amarasuriya said that speaking in New Delhi felt “like coming full circle,” recalling her time as a student in India during the 1990s.

The prime minister outlined Sri Lanka’s plans to strengthen trade and investment ties with India, modernize the existing Free Trade Agreement, improve maritime connectivity, and position Sri Lanka as a strategic hub in the Indian Ocean.

Amarasuriya’s address was part of her first official visit to India since assuming office. During the visit, which runs from October 16 to 18, she is scheduled to visit her alma mater, Hindu College of Delhi University, and hold discussions with Indian institutions including IIT Delhi and NITI Aayog on collaboration in education and technology.

The NDTV World Summit 2025 brings together global and regional leaders under one platform, featuring keynote speakers including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott. (NewsWire)
