Inland Revenue reaches 102% of target, tops estimates

Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department collected 102% of its expected tax revenue by the end of September, officials told the Parliamentary Committee on Ways and Means.

The agency said actual revenue reached Rs. 1.64 trillion as of September 30, compared with the expected Rs. 1.61 trillion. The figure represents 75% of the full-year target of Rs. 2.19 trillion.

The data was presented during a committee meeting chaired by lawmaker Wijesiri Basnayake recently (08). 

Committee members reviewed revenue performance, ongoing digitalization, and challenges in tax administration, while they also called for reform proposals aimed at improving the department’s operations.
