General Hamilton Wanasinghe VSV, NDC, USP, a former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, has passed away, his family announced today.
General Wanasinghe served as the Army Commander from 1988 to 1991 during a critical period in Sri Lanka’s history. He later held key national security roles, including General Officer Commanding of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.
A decorated military officer, he was recognised for his service and leadership with several honours, including the Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya (VSV), Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP), and National Defence College (NDC) credentials.
His family stated that funeral arrangements will be notified in due course. (Newswire)
