MP Archchuna Ramanathan has proposed implementing fingerprint-based attendance for parliamentarians, citing poor session attendance among some members.

“The fingerprint is necessary, but let’s start with the parliament. Look at how many MPs are present here today. We take a total salary of 350,000 rupees. Some MPs have only attended 25 out 66 sessions,” Ramanathan said, stating that millions are being spent to conduct parliament sessions, which certain MPs have not attended.

The MP said the law should apply equally to all and called for the mandatory fingerprint rule to be implemented across professions, including the medical field, police, and legal sector.

“I have claimed overtime as a doctor, as I’m sure the Deputy Minister has done the same too. Laws must be equal to all. The law applicable to judges must also be applicable to lawyers. The law that applies to a hospital director must also apply to the minor staff,” he said, challenging the government to implement the mandatory fingerprint rule across all professions. (Newswire)
