A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his wife in the Udissapaththuwa area of Rangala after police investigations into a missing person complaint uncovered evidence of a homicide.
The victim, a 22-year-old resident of Udissapaththuwa, had been reported missing on May 25, prompting an investigation by Rangala Police.
Investigators later determined that the woman had allegedly been killed by her husband, who is accused of attempting to conceal the crime. Police said the suspect and his mother had visited the police station and lodged a complaint claiming that the woman had gone missing from their home.
The suspect had fled the area following the incident but was arrested by a team of Rangala Police officers in Udissapaththuwa on Wednesday (03).
According to police, the suspect had consumed a poisonous substance at the time of his arrest and was subsequently admitted to the Teldeniya Hospital, where he remains under police guard while receiving treatment.
Further investigations led officers to a marshy area behind the couple’s residence, where the woman’s body had allegedly been buried. The remains were exhumed and a post-mortem examination was conducted on Wednesday (03).
The samples from the body have been forwarded to the Government Analyst for further examination.
Rangala Police are continuing investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
