Former South African President in Sri Lanka for Capital Maharaja Convention, Meets President AKD

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki is in Sri Lanka on an official visit as Chief Guest of the Capital Maharaja Group’s 45th Annual Convention, which is set to take place today (27).

Mbeki arrived in Colombo yesterday and later met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat. The discussion focused on themes of national unity and reconciliation, with Mbeki praising Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to strengthen harmony in its multi-ethnic society. He also offered to share South Africa’s experience in post-conflict governance and nation-building.

During his visit, Mbeki is expected to take part in several engagements, including the “Gammadda” outreach program and the “Circle of Dreams” youth forum scheduled for June 28. He will also participate in a fireside chat with Capital Maharaja Group Director Chevaan Daniel on the theme “Looking Forward: The Importance of Building the Future While Reconciling the Past.” (Newswire)
