  Sinopec Fuel Oil Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. (SFOL) has announced the introduction of High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO) to the Sri Lankan market for bunkering, a move that is set to transform the country’s maritime fuel sector. This strategic initiative underscores  Sinopec’s commitment to customer centric solutions, addressing a significant supply gap in Sri Lanka’s bunkering industry. Currently, Sri Lanka faces a notable challenge in meeting the demand for HSFO due to the absence of shore-based storage facilities at all its ports, including the commercial port of Colombo. This limitation has constrained local bunker suppliers, restricting HSFO availability to small quantities and creating a shortfall in the market. The shortage affects the shipping industry’s ability to secure reliable fuel supplies, impacting maritime operations and efficiency.
