Hotel De Plaza in Colpetty has issued an official statement following the circulation of a viral video showing an altercation between its staff and a group of customers, clarifying that the footage does not reflect the full sequence of events.

According to the management, the incident occurred on the evening of November 22, 2025, when a group attempted to place an order while the restaurant was operating at full capacity. Staff informed them of an approximate 30-minute waiting time and explained that no tables were currently available. The group reportedly returned multiple times and were given the same response.

The hotel claims that on their third return, the group suddenly assaulted staff members, resulting in injuries to four employees. One staff member suffered a head injury while another sustained fractured fingers. Two employees have since been discharged, while two others continue to receive treatment at the General Hospital.

Hotel De Plaza said the viral video circulating on social media only shows staff retaliating and not the moments that led to the confrontation. Management stressed that their employees acted in self-defence only after being physically attacked.

In its response, the hotel urged the public to be cautious when sharing the video, warning that partial footage could create unnecessary racial or communal tension. It also reaffirmed that it is fully cooperating with authorities and that the safety of staff and guests remains its top priority.

The management described the situation as unfortunate and reiterated its commitment to handling such incidents calmly and professionally.

Investigations into the altercation are ongoing. (Newswire)
