President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today briefed Parliament on the fuel shipments expected to arrive in Sri Lanka based on the tender opened on March 17.
Addressing the Parliament today, President Dissanayake said that a diesel shipment will arrive on April 6 or 7 and that a petrol shipment will arrive on April 16 or 17.
Furnace oil will arrive on April 12 or 13, and Jet A-1 fuel on April 10 or 11, he added.
President Dissanayake further said that tenders were opened for crude oil shipments in April and June, but no company came forward for the shipment requested for April.
However, companies had approached the tender issued for crude oil shipment in June, which the government has acknowledged, he said.
President Dissanayake further revealed that tenders were opened once again on March 18 for a shipment of diesel, which is under discussion, with the shipment expected on April 08 or 09.
He explained that new short-term tenders have been called due to shipments from the Fujaira oil hub in the United Arab Emirates getting delayed due to the conflict in the Middle East Region.
Two such shipments consisting of 90,000 metric tons of fuel had been delayed, while another shipment of 90,000 metric tons had also been postponed, he said
President Dissanayake assured that the government was taking all necessary measures to address the fuel supply issues. (Newswire)
