The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has issued a circular outlining special arrangements for Muslim public officers during the upcoming Ramadan season in 2026.
According to the circular, Ramadan is scheduled to begin on 19 February 2026 and conclude on 21 March 2026. Heads of institutions have been instructed to make necessary arrangements to enable Muslim officers to participate in prayers and religious observances during this period.
The Ministry has identified the daily time periods during which religious activities are expected to take place as:
3.30 a.m. to 6.00 a.m.
3.15 p.m. to 4.15 p.m.
6.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
7.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.
Institutions have been advised to arrange work shifts wherever possible to facilitate participation in these religious activities. The circular states that special leave should be granted only in unavoidable circumstances where shift arrangements cannot be made.
In addition, the Ministry has directed relevant authorities to ensure that the Festival Advance is granted to eligible Muslim officers serving in the Public Service, Public Corporations, and Statutory Boards at least 14 days prior to the end of the Ramadan period. (NewsWire)
