The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning for the Central, North-central, Eastern, Uva, Sabaragamuwa provinces and Vavuniya, Mannar, Mullaittivu, and Hambantota districts.
Per the weather advisory, effective until 11.00 pm today, red alerts have been issued to 16 districts.
Thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning and temporary localized strong winds are expected during this period.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
