Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has called for proposals to implement an Open Loop Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system aimed at modernising fare payments across its islandwide bus network.
In a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued this week, the SLTB said the project will involve the implementation, commissioning and maintenance of the AFC system covering buses operated through its 107 depots across the country.
According to the notice, the system will introduce a single-window digital solution for fare payments, including the provision of point-of-sale (POS) machines, seat reservation facilities, and systems for cancellations and refunds, along with a comprehensive management information system.
The SLTB said the initiative has been identified as a key step towards improving passenger services and enhancing the quality and efficiency of the state-run bus network.
The board said it intends to obtain services from an eligible and qualified solution provider based in Sri Lanka with proven experience in implementing systems in the public transport sector. (Newswire)
