
The Deputy Mayor of the Kurunegala Municipal Council has been arrested by Sri Lanka’s Bribery Commission over allegations of soliciting a Rs. 3 million bribe from a businessman in exchange for awarding a tender.
M. Ashardeen Moinudeen, a member of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), was arrested at a hotel in Battaramulla, according to officials.
Moinudeen was elected Deputy Mayor after supporting the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) to form control of the council.
Authorities said investigations are underway into the alleged bribery solicitation linked to a municipal tender process. (Newswire)
