Sri Lanka will facilitate the payment of all traffic fines exclusively through online channels from September as part of the government’s digitalisation programme, according to the President’s Media Division.
The move was highlighted during a progress review of projects and programmes implemented by the Ministry of Digital Economy in 2026, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.
The online traffic fine payment facility forms part of the GovPay initiative, which was introduced to make transactions between the public and government institutions more convenient.
The meeting also reviewed several other digital initiatives, including plans to issue Sri Lanka’s first digital identity card by the end of this year, the National Super App, National QR Drive, National Data Exchange and number portability.
The projects form part of the government’s broader plan to expand Sri Lanka’s digital economy to $30 billion by 2030. (Newswire)
