Police used tear gas to bring under control a tense situation at the Pallansena Prison, where inmates staged a protest on the roof of the facility, police said.
Details on the cause of the protest were not immediately available.
Briefing parliament on the situation Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala earlier today said around 30 inmates climbed onto the roof of a prison ward after breakfast and refused to return inside. (Newswire)
