Construction work on the Torrington apartment complex, which had been stalled for years, officially resumed today, according to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.
The project, which includes 115 housing units, was initially launched in 2012. However, after years of inactivity and partial restarts — including a failed resumption in 2017 — development remained incomplete.
The Ministry stated that despite an estimated Rs. 160 million already spent, continuous construction had not been achieved until now.
Officials now aim to complete the project within 24 months and hand over the apartments to eligible beneficiaries.
The event saw the participation of Minister Bimal Rathnayake, Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara and Colombo Mayor Vraie Cally Balthazaar. (Newswire)
