David Pieris Automobiles (Private) Limited has strengthened its presence in Sri Lanka’s automotive market with the opening of a new BAIC showroom in Kandy, giving motorists in the Central Province easier access to the brand’s growing vehicle range.

Located at No. 262A, Katugastota Road, Kandy, the new facility expands BAIC’s sales network beyond Colombo and brings dedicated sales support closer to customers in Kandy and surrounding areas.

The Kandy opening forms part of David Pieris Automobiles’ wider expansion of the BAIC brand in Sri Lanka. The company already operates its flagship showroom on Pannipitiya Road in Battaramulla, alongside locations including Hyde Park Corner, Colombo 02, Kurunegala, Matara, Ratnapura, Jaffna and Ampara.

For customers in the Central Province, the new showroom provides an opportunity to explore BAIC vehicles closer to home, discuss available models with the sales team and receive guidance before making a purchase.

Growing BAIC Range in Sri Lanka

David Pieris Automobiles currently offers a growing selection of BAIC vehicles aimed at customers looking for SUVs, new automotive technology and electric mobility.

The BAIC X55 combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in international specifications, while offering modern comfort, safety and digital features. BAIC’s official global specifications list a five-seat configuration and a 2,735mm wheelbase for the current X55.

The brand’s SUV portfolio also includes the BAIC BJ30, positioned as a versatile model combining rugged styling with technology and everyday practicality. BAIC has continued expanding the BJ30 internationally, including the introduction of right-hand-drive versions for markets in the region.

Alongside its SUV offering, BAIC is also expanding into electric mobility in Sri Lanka through the X3e, a fully electric crossover equipped with a digital cockpit, fast-charging capability and driver-assistance technology. BAIC’s global product information highlights features including an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, a 15.6-inch central screen and multiple driving modes.

The X3e was introduced to Sri Lanka earlier this year, further broadening the options available to motorists considering the transition to electric vehicles.

BAIC has also gained traction in the local market through the X55, with David Pieris Automobiles marking the rollout of its 1,000th BAIC X55 earlier in 2026. Local assembly operations are carried out at the David Pieris Group Manufacturing Complex in Ranna, Hambantota District.

Sales Backed by After Sales Support

Beyond expanding its showroom network, David Pieris Automobiles is placing emphasis on after-sales support as part of the BAIC ownership experience.

A dedicated BAIC workshop operates at Hyde Park Corner, Colombo, providing scheduled maintenance, repairs, genuine spare parts and technical assistance, supported by a wider dealer and service network.

David Pieris Automobiles describes BAIC as one of China’s major automotive manufacturers, with an international presence spanning more than 80 countries. BAIC’s own global platform also highlights its expanding international operations and range of petrol, hybrid and electric vehicles.

The Kandy showroom therefore marks more than an additional sales location for the brand. It gives motorists in the Central Province greater access to BAIC’s expanding vehicle portfolio while supporting David Pieris Automobiles’ effort to build a broader sales and after-sales presence across Sri Lanka.
