HelaGo, the locally developed ride-hailing service launched through a partnership between digital technology pioneer Helakuru and the trusted David Pieris Group, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing one million kilometres of completed rides, marking a major achievement in its journey to transform Sri Lanka’s transportation sector.
Officially launched on January 6, 2026, HelaGo has earned the trust of both passengers and drivers within a remarkably short period of just five months, making this accomplishment particularly noteworthy. Initially operating across the Western Province, the platform has now attracted more than 80,000 drivers along with a rapidly growing passenger base.
One of the key challenges faced by both drivers and passengers in existing ride-hailing services is the issue of fare determination and fairness. HelaGo has introduced an innovative solution to address this concern. In addition to the conventional centrally managed pricing model, the platform offers a unique fare negotiation system where prices can be determined through mutual agreement between the driver and the passenger.
Under this system, when a passenger submits a ride request, several nearby drivers can propose fares they consider fair for the trip. The passenger can then compare the offered prices, driver ratings, and vehicle types before selecting the option that best suits their needs and budget, ensuring greater transparency and freedom of choice.
In addition, HelaGo features a modern Auto Booking facility, enabling passengers with urgent travel needs to secure a ride quickly and conveniently. The platform also incorporates advanced safety technologies designed to provide a high level of security for both passengers and drivers.
