A youthful and vibrant choir, Speranza, comprised of a group of talented voices from Negombo, presents “Worthy is the Lamb – 2026”, an evening of choral music and sacred singing on Sunday, 19th April 2026 from 6.30 p.m. onwards at the Maris Stella College Chapel. The programme warmly welcomes all lovers of choral music to experience an evening of harmony in praise of the Lord.

The programme features a thoughtfully curated repertoire of hymns in Latin, English, and Sinhala, enriched with distinctive musical arrangements unique to Speranza. Among the highlights of the evening will be Ave Verum Corpus by Mozart, along with the titular masterpiece, Worthy is the Lambfrom Messiah by George Frederic Handel.

Speranza, meaning “hope” in Italian, is a choir of 25 dedicated choristers who blend their voices in harmonious devotion. Originating in 2010 through the friendship of Old Boys of Maris Stella College and Old Girls of Ave Maria Convent two of Negombo’s most esteemed institutions the choir has grown into a symbol of unity, passion, and musical excellence. Guided in its early years by Mr. Francis De Almeida, Speranza continues to honour his legacy through its commitment to sacred music.

Over the years, the choir has reached remarkable milestones, participating in prestigious events such as Joy To The World, organized by the Archdiocese of Colombo, and performing in Latin Choral Masses for four consecutive years under the guidance of renowned UK composer and conductor Gregory Rose.

More than just a choir, Speranza is a family bound by a shared devotion to expressing faith through music. Their journey has been marked by successful full house productions including Voice of Speranza, Amore Musica, and Cinemalankaaraya, each reflecting their diversity, camaraderie, and unwavering passion.

This Easter, Speranza seeks to spread a message of hope, peace, and spiritual reflection through an evening of timeless choral works. While the event remains open to all, the choir warmly welcomes the goodwill and support of individuals and organizations who share an appreciation for the arts and its role in enriching the community. Such generous contributions will go a long way in sustaining and elevating initiatives like this, ensuring that the spirit of music and faith continues to flourish.

Join Speranza on Sunday, 19th April at 6.30 p.m. at the Maris Stella College Chapel for an inspiring evening of sacred choral music.
